It was a day of celebration at SPARK Rivonia High, as SPARK Randburg High top academic achievers got awarded for their academic excellence throughout 2023.
SPARK Scholars, families, and academic and support staff were all present to celebrate the scholars’ hard work during the year. The event took place on 20 October 2023 at SPARK Rivonia High.
The first cohort of matriculants at SPARK Schools was excited and joyful as they accepted their certificates and trophies from High School Curriculum and Assessment Lead Dr. Sihlobo Mpofu.
Sharing words of encouragement, SPARK Randburg High Principal Mercy Nyabonda began her speech by thanking parents for coming to celebrate their children.
“Years ago, you brought a hesitant son or daughter to this school. Now is the time to take home a confident, competent, committed, and compassionate global citizen. Thank you for trusting us with educating your children,” she said.
Nyabonda acknowledged how difficult the journey has been for the matriculants as they had to learn during the COVID-19 pandemic.
She shared how challenging the journey has been for the scholars as they’ve had to survive the COVID-19 pandemic while still having to show up for school. She praised them for their resilience and for coming out stronger than ever.
“Today, I stand here, not only as a proud principal but also as a mother. The class of 2023 has done us proud. There were times when we pushed you hard, times when we felt you had not done enough, times when our expectations of you seemed unrealistic and unachievable,” she said.
She was also grateful to the scholars for all the work they put into building the school and working on their schoolwork.
High School Head of Product Khomotjo Mashele also beamed with pride and thanked all the teachers and parents who were around from the inception of the high school.
She also highlighted to the scholars the importance of living the SPARK values when they attend university, as it will help them throughout their university journey.
Lastly, the Head of SPARK Primary Schools, Nkazimulo Zitha, told the scholars that running their race is essential and not focusing on others.
